Dillon was humming all day at work, walking on cloud nine. He hunted down his boss as soon as he got to work, giving his two weeks notice. Mr. Holiday told him that he was sad to see him go but gave him the number to a company in Kentucky for Dillon to look up when he got there. He even said he would give him a top-notch recommendation.

Life was good.

Sandy pulled his ear when they were alone in his office, crying that she was losing her best friend. Dillon would miss her as well. They had become close since they met. He even snickered when he told her about his and Jay’s rambunctious night. She kept fanning herself as she cried envy. He knew that was bull. There was no way she was that happy and in love if Ricky wasn’t laying it thick to her.

She promised to visit when her schedule and Ricky’s would allow it, but they always had e-mail, phone, and texting at their fingertips. He would definitely have to upgrade to the unlimited package because there was no way he was losing touch with her.

The secretary at the front desk blushed with envy when a dozen roses showed up for Dillon. No one had ever sent him flowers before. He pulled the card, Sandy hovering over his shoulder.

Dillon wanted to read it in privacy but didn’t see the harm in sharing his good fortune with his best friend.
